About
Jeevan Sangham, is a non-profitable, non-Governmental Organization established in Bodhgaya, Gaya district, in 1994, by the Patna Jesuits. This organization is committed to working among the poorest of the poor to empower them through different involvements. Though the organization is working in the whole district, more focus has been more in three blocks of Gaya district.
Thus its aim is to strive towards the goal of an egalitarian, just and self-reliant society through education and organization of the poor especially the dalits. The organization also aims to promote inter-religious harmony among the people of different faiths. The Present Involvements of the Organization is in Education: Presently, one of the priorities of the organization has been alternative educational programs for the Bhuia and Bhokta children, the most deprived sections of our society, in the remote and hilly areas of Barachatti and Dobhi Blocks, adjacent to Jharkhand border.
Gaya and Bodhgaya being two very prominent centers of two great religions-Hinduism and Buddhism-our presence and involvements to create and promote peace and communal harmony among people of different faiths have a lot of meaning and importance. Jeevan Sangham was instrumental in forming the Inter-faith Forum in Gaya/Bodhgaya many years ago, consisting of important people from different religions. His Holiness Dalai Lama himself is the patron of this Forum still. We do promote active dialogue among the leaders and people of different religions here by taking up issues concerning all of us.
