Tailoring Graduation cum Exhibition Day at Gaunaha

In the year 2017 MANOS UNIDAS in collaboration with Jan Shiksha Bhavan, Gaunaha came forward with an objective of initiating a self-sustaining empowerment process through promotion of quality education, community mobilization of women and skill building of adolescent girls. One of the outcomes of this project is that five tailoring centers were established to train the economically and socially weaker adolescent girls of Gaunaha Block. As the project completed one year on 30thJune 2018 about 63 Tharu girls and 43 girls belonging to the Myanmar refugees benefitted from the tailoring course that was conducted for 9 months. At the end of the first year of the training pants, shirts, skirts, salwar-sameez and blouse were the main items that each one of them learnt to stitch. The girls mobilised the machines by themselves and the rest of the support was provided in and through the project. Tailoring graduation cum tailoring exhibition took place on 30th June 2018. Fr. Donald Miranda, S.J, the Provincial of Patna Jesuit Province was the chief guest for the occasion. He interacted with the girls who expressed their aspiration to generate income for their families by engaging themselves in tailoring activities in the future. Fr. Donald Miranda motivated them to explore the possibilities of working in small groups to carry forward whatever they had learnt during the 9 months of skill-building.
