Prabhat, Sakri a unit of Patna Jesuit Society (PJS) was awarded for its exemplary and outstanding contribution in the field of transformative change by enhancing livelihood options among the Musahar community, one of the lowest in the socio-economic indicators. PJS was among the five partners chosen among the 100 plus partners of Indo Global Social Service Society for this award for the year 2016-17. The award is aimed at appreciating partners for the exemplary work done for building social enterprise models and for creating enabling environment for a sustainable development.
Traditionally the Musahars work as casual labourers and often suffer exploitation of various kinds. Generally they are known for poor entrepreneurship qualities especially to earn a living by engaging in income generating activities. With the encouragement and support from the IGSSS Prabhat Sakri (PJS) has initiated support to about 500 Musahar families of Madhubani and Darbhanga Districts of Bihar for livelihood enhancement activities like fishery, kitchen garden, organic farming, goat rearing etc.
Patna Jesuit Society has been engaged among the Mushars in a focused manner for almost a decade. This experience of livelihood enhancement has been very uique. Thanks to IGSSS for its continued support and encouragement. Thanks to Prabhat Sakri-PJS team and over and above thanks to the people who made this achievement possible for themselves!
