International Women’s Day was celebrated as women empowerment day at Jan Siksha Bhavan, Gaunaha, a unit of Patna Jesuit Province. Gaunaha is the last block of the state of Bihar, at the Indo-Nepal Boarder with much significance as Gandhiji initiated a protest against the Britishers on forceful blue plantation, way back in 1917.
Over 3000 women and adolescent girls belonging to Tharu and Musahar communities who are part of the Community Based organization (CBOs) facilitated by Jan Siksha Bhavan participated in the programme.
To mark the occasion there was a march from the block headquarters of Gaunaha upto St. Xavier’s school, Rampurwa. In the school ground, there was 2 hour long cultural programmes on the theme of the day. The Chief Guest of the function was Sudeep Chacko,SJ, a known Social Worker and at present the Administrator of Khrist Raja Association, Bettiah. Women and adolescent girls from Ramnagar and Mainatad block also took part in the programme. Saji Palamkunnel, SJ, the principal of St. Xavier’s, Rampurwa was one of the key organisers along with Babu Jagadeepan, SJ, the Director-JSB.
