A long awaited dream of Gaunaha Jesuit Mission was realized when Fr. Donlad Miranda, S.J, inaugurated the boys’ hostel, kitchen and toilet- blocks on 10th of April 2019. The Mission has been growing exponentially ever since it was started in the year 2005. At present it is educating about 1400 students mainly from socially and economically deprived sections of the society (Mainly from Tharus, oroans, mushars etc.) As the Mission expanded there was pressing need to have more infrastructures. Thanks to MANOS UNIDAS for joining hand with us. St. Xavier’s School and its students became the beneficiaries of the generosity of MANOS team.
The provincial said the prayers of blessing in the presence of Fr. Rector - Joe Marippuram S.J. (Khrist Raja Educational Association), Superior of the Jesuit Community -Fr. Joseph Sebastian, members of Gaunaha Jesuit Community, hostel students and the labourers. He inaugurated the hostel, kitchen and toilets by cutting the ribbon. All the Jesuits present lit the lamp in front of the statue of St. Joseph as sign of the hostel being dedicated St. Joseph.
The hostel students celebrated the occasion by performing cultural programs which conveyed the importance of good education.
Ever since the school started, it has been playing the catalytic role in changing the oppressive socio-economic-cultural structures. Our students most of them are first generation of learners achieved excellent results in the state level examinations conducted by Bihar Board of Education for the academic year 2018-19. This year out of 38 students who appeared for the Board examination, 36 of them got 1st division and 2 got 2nd division. Our alumnae Subhakar Kumar; a tharu boy who passed out from the school 2 years ago and has been studying in Jesuit Social Action Centre READ Bettiah, secured 2nd Rank at the State level intermediate examination. These are the signs of awakening that is happening due to our educational intervention in Gaunaha. Once more we would like to express our deepest sense of gratitude to MANOS TEAM for joining hand with us in doing the Mission of Christ to empower the weak and the voiceless.
Fr. Saji Mathew, S.J
